JOB TITLE: Switchboard Operator

DEPARTMENT: Patient Services

REPORTS TO: Patient Services Supervisor

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: Responsible for efficiently handling incoming/outgoing calls for patients, staff, physicians and outside vendors.

This is a full-time position that is based out of our St. Paul, MN office.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Answer and direct multi-line telephone system routing calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Initiate consults from physicians, clinics and hospitals to Metro Urology, a division of Minnesota Urology providers.
  • Appropriately document telephone messages for appropriate staff/providers as needed.
  • Overhead page appropriate personnel when needed.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/ABILITIES TO EFFECTIVELY PERFORM RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represent Metro Urology in a professional manner related to appearance, communication and the maintenance of patient and company confidentiality.
  • Incorporates the use of technology into day-to-day tasks by using Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, NextGen and UroChart effectively and accurately.
  • Responsible for efficient telephone call distribution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with the patients, staff, management, physicians, and external contacts.
  • Ability to work as a team member and individually.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year customer service/switchboard experience, medical office preferred.
  • Knowledge of NextGen and Medical Office Suite experience preferred, not required.

EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Multi-telephone line, computer keyboard/monitor and printer. Writing utensils, telephone, copy machine, fax machine.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires sitting for long periods of time working in an office environment. Some bending and stretching required. Working in a fast paced environment and use of telephone required. Manual dexterity required for use of the computer keyboard. Ability to lift 5 - 10 lbs.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment. Telephone contact with physicians, staff, patients, and other external clients.
